Some important themes run throughout the course:

Hotspots V focus on 1-2 Key areas of a skill when coaching

Picture/analogy learning V use imaginative pictures/images to help children to understand ideas and communicate ideas quickly.

ABCs V Key age to develop skills for life. Subliminal learning

Whole-Part-Whole Approach.

Children, not “Little Adults. Vary the intensity of the session

Group management V Different zones for water, balls, sitting and listening, playing etc.

Warm Up and ABC (Agility, Balance, Co-ordination and Speed)

Agility

  • Establish boundary V weave between cones
  • Follow the leader (hotspots: Carry the egg)
  • Tag V If touched hand over ball.
  • Stuck in the mud V flush the toilet.

Balance

  • One Leg Simon Says
  • Whistle game, Whistle means Stop
  • One leg Hop – balance
  • Cockroaches Fall on back wiggle legs, get up.

Coordination

  • Movement, basic running technique
  • Ball familiarisation V side to side, over/under, figure 8.
  • Individual reaction skills V Move the ball around your body in different ways e.g. figure of 8 between legs.
  • Individual reaction skills V Throw the ball and perform a Trick e.g. clap twice, heads-shoulders-knees and toes, invent your own. Speed

  • Soldiers
  • Chasing in pairs
  • Ladders – allow the children to experiment
  • Hurdles – allow the children to experiment Speed
